24/11/2011: SINTERKLAAS VISITING HSV AND LIGHTHOUSE
Dear Parents,
On Monday 5th December, Sinterklaas will be making his annual visit to our school to celebrate his birthday. As is usually the custom, how he will arrive at school will be a big surprise!
We would like to ask for your help in bringing all children to school for an 08.25 start. Please make sure that you arrive on time in order to avoid missing the start of a very exciting day. Children may bring their bags into school before the festivities begin.
We would also like to invite parents and younger brothers and sisters to see the arrival of Sint at the Haagsche Schoolvereeniging. However, we would kindly ask you to stand well back behind the children. Everyone will then be able to see clearly.
School will finish at 12.30 on the 5th December. Children will not be eating lunch at school that day, so please provide a substantial healthy snack. Please make sure that you are at school on time at 12.30 to collect your child.
Thank you in advance for your co-operation.
With regards,
The Sinterklaas committee

26/09/2011: INTERNATIONAL BAZAAR: THANK YOU!
On behalf of Lighthouse Special Education, I would like to thank you for a wonderful fundraising event on Sunday, September 25th at the Slovenian Embassy residence. There was truly a lovely representation of foods, crafts and goods from many countries. The lively Hungarian dancing was frosting on the cake!
I am so impressed with Slovenian Ambassador Leon Marc and his lovely wife, Barbara . They were such gracious and hospitable hosts. They opened their home for this event, invited many guests, and were both extremely helpful and conscientious of and attentive to the needs of everyone.
Praises to Anita Redai for arranging and coordinating this event and to Tara Vandertoorn for creating the flyer and for helping with the coordination. Thank you also to Michela Pastorboni, Christina Constable, Sunita Menon, Simonetta Pancaldi, Debra Lambert, Suzanne Kingdon-Nielsen and the many others who contributed to this successful event. We are grateful to those who donated toward the event although they could not attend. Very special thanks to the talents children and their supportive teachers who produced beautiful artwork to be sold at the Lighthouse table.
We still have more Lighthouse artwork to sell (it is now in the office for purchase) and we have not yet received all contributions from the vendors. However, with the generous contributions of the vendors and patrons, we estimate the proceeds of this event to bring school nearly €2800!!!
All in all, it was a great success, both for financial contribution to Lighthouse, and for the international community fellowship. It was a delightful opportunity to mingle with people from many different countries and cultures, especially our host country, Slovenia. We are so grateful to Ambassador Leon Marc and his wife, Barbara Blaznic Marc, for opening their home to the International Bazaar in support of the children at Lighthouse Special Education. The proceeds will go to benefit all children in the school.
With this financial support we intend to purchase new bikes for the school and other learning materials for all classrooms. I will keep an inventory of what is purchased to report to the activity committee.
Who knew that fundraising could be so much fun! Photos of the event will be posted on the website shortly. Please see the photos of the event taken by freelance photographer, Viktoriya Skoryk. at http://blessedfuria.jalbum.net .
Thank you all so much for your support.
With much appreciation,
Cynthia Jaeger
Director of Special and Preschool Education

02/09/2011: INTERNATIONAL BAZAAR ON SEPTEMBER, 25th
Dear Parents,
On September 25th there will be an international bazaar at the Slovenian Ambassador's Residence (Scheveningseweg 239, Den Haag) from 14.00 - 17.00.
Anita Redai, one of our fabulous parents, is coordinating this event. There will be tables set up with food, beverages, art, and crafts - including a Lighthouse/Three Little Ships table with special artwork created by your children. We will also have the opportunity to enjoy traditional Hungarian dancing.
A flyer, designed by Tara Vandertoorn (another fabulous parent), advertising the event is downloadable (file PDF, 300 kB). Please feel free to share it with anyone you think might like to attend such as friends, business partners, local shops, etc.
If you would like to help, please contact Anita at anita.redai@gmail.com.
Proceeds from the event will support the purchase of play equipment and classroom materials for Lighthouse and Three Little Ships.
Special thanks to those on the Activity Committee who helped plan this special fundraising event. We hope to see you there to join in the fun!
Sincerely yours,
Cynthia Jaeger
Director of Special and Preschool Education

Dear Parents,
There will be an Activity Committee meeting this Wednesday, August 31st at 19.00 at Lighthouse.
The main purpose of this meeting is to discuss the upcoming fundraising event, the International Bazaar at the Slovenian Embassy. Anita has been working very hard to pull this event together and Tara has created a advertising flyer to distribute to the community.

15/08/2011: WELCOME TO THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR
Dear Parents,
It is a pleasure to welcome you and your child(ren) to the 2011-2012 school year!
The school has been thoroughly cleaned over the summer and the teams are busy setting up the classrooms, materials and supplies in preparation for your children.
Primary grades for returning students begin on August 15th at 8:45 and on August 17th for most new students.
Preschool children will attend from 8:45–12:15 for the first three days of school (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) and then will assume the normal schedule starting Thursday the 18th.
There will be a monthly newsletter coming to you by the way of email and hard copy (in your child’s backpack) that will provide updated information about Lighthouse and Three Little Ships. Your child’s teacher will also communicate with you for events and activities specifically related to their classroom.
Our school guide is nearly complete and you will have a hard copy available to you once we get it back from the press.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me by email, phone, or popping by the office when you are in the building. We are very excited for the start of the new school year and look forward to seeing you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Cynthia Jaeger
